Subscription finder that scans bank accounts and inboxes. From $0 to $1M MRR in 6 mos.

Feenko — a subscription management app that connects to users' bank accounts and email inboxes, automatically discovers all active subscriptions, and helps users view, optimize, and cancel them. Target markets: Australia, United States, Canada. Value proposition: pay $40/month to save $500–800+/month on forgotten or unwanted recurring charges.

Challenge.

Business challenge: People unknowingly spend $500–1,000+/month on forgotten or redundant subscriptions with no easy way to discover, track, or cancel them across scattered bank statements and email inboxes. The founder identified this pain point inside a large corporation but couldn't get buy-in — so he went independent with no prior experience building consumer SaaS products.

Technical challenge:

MX/Plaid integration inconsistency — some subscriptions detected, others not, requiring investigation and workarounds.

Australian data residency requirements — Firebase and all cloud infrastructure had to be hosted in Australian data centers specifically.

Google review/approval for Gmail API access (email parsing permissions)

Solution.

Pixel-perfect, native iOS design using Cupertino components to maximize trust and perceived professionalism — critical for a finance app asking for bank/email access.

Serverless architecture (Flutter → Firebase directly) to ship fast and stay within budget, with no backend needed initially.

Plaid + MX dual integration for bank account connectivity and transaction parsing.

Email parsing (Gmail and others) as a secondary subscription discovery channel.

Manual subscription addition (500+ providers) as fallback for anything automated detection misses.

Separate Firebase infrastructure hosted in Australian data centers for data residency compliance.

Zero server-side data storage on our end — all data flows through Firebase and third-party providers, reducing liability.

Revenue
$1M MRR.

within 7 months of launch

CAC
~$13

per converted user

LTV
~$60 average.

Unit economics: $60 LTV – $13 CAC = ~$47 margin per user. Strategy was to reinvest margin aggressively into paid acquisition — scale first, optimize monetization later.

Conversion/CAC efficiency: At $500/day initial Facebook ad spend, the strong value prop ($40/month to save $500–800/month) kept acquisition costs low relative to revenue.

UX: Native-feeling, pixel-perfect design built immediate trust — the single most important factor for a finance app requesting bank and email access, directly impacting onboarding conversion.

Team scaling: Client grew from outsourced 1.5-person team to 12+ in-house employees, proving the foundation we built was scalable and supportable.

Speed to market: From zero to live, revenue-generating app in ~1.5 months.
